Just a reminder that the AHKC will hold its August meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, August 31 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the South Regional Branch of the Lafayette Public Library. Homeschooled highschoolers in the Acadiana area are invited to attend and check it out – and feel free to bring a friend! Parents are welcome as well.
More info on the party
Here is a bit of info about the party. If you look it up online ( http://www.dinnerandamurder.com/games/4deucestame.htm ) , please note that we will be using the tame version!

Murder At The Four Deuces is a rip roaring 1920′s gangster murder mystery game with lots of murder, bribery and back stabbing to be had. Some of the guests will include gangsters, politicians, singers and gamblers.
Don and MeMe Wannabe are hosting the grand opening celebration of their new club The Four Deuces and you are invited to attend. The Four Deuces is a lavish juice joint serving music, food & fun. The cream and not so cream of society will be here. With gangsters, politicians, dolls, molls and many other interesting guests in attendance this event is sure to be the bee’s knees.
A few excerpts from The Gangsters Weekly News:
Announcing the Grand Opening of
The Four Deuces Club
Don Wannabe and his wife, MeMe, are hosting the event of the season. The Grand Opening of the Four Deuces is to take place tomorrow night. It will be an exciting night for all! An inside source has confirmed that the créme de la créme of “The Family” will be attending this extravagant event. We expect stringent security measures to be in place at such a large event. Orders are that no packing of heat is allowed. New York Capo, “Toto” Tequila, is rumored to be in town. Could the Boss of Bosses be attending the Grand Opening? Everyone is wondering what occasion would warrant such a visit.
Gangland Slaying:
Last night around 11:30 PM, a gangland style murder took place under the South Side Bridge. Among the deceased were: Jonathan “The Joker”Juiseppi, Harry “The Hammer” Hambini, Sam ‘The Squeeze’ Senelli. Word on the street is that they were members of The Black Hand Gang. “Big Jim” Ravioli was quoted as saying, “The Family would like to extend their sincere condolences on your tragic loss. It is our hope that other members of this outfit will take the necessary precautions to remain safe.”
~ The Gangster Grapevine ~
Don “Big Jim” Ravioli has stated that he has an important announcement to make during the Grand Opening of The Four Deuces. Rebecca Ravioli has been telling people that she is going to marry Rhett Bumbler. We have our doubts that Big Jim would allow this marriage. Last week, Don “Big Jim” Ravioli married 19-year-old singer, Carrie Crooner. Big Jim’s ex-wife, Vicky, did not seem to grieve much over their divorce. We have heard she received a big divorce settlement and that she now has a secret beau.
You got moxie?
Hey Everyone!
The murder mystery party is scheduled for Saturday, September 18, from 6:00 pm till about 9:30 pm.
There is a $5 per person fee to help cover the cost of the party and a little bit of fundraising! The party is open, of course, to current Key Club members, but past members are also welcome! This is a good event to invite a friend who might be interested in joining the Key Club. If we still have available spaces, we’ll open it up to younger siblings. Parents are welcome to stay during the party or to drop off and pick up at the end.
It is almost time to send out character info, so it’s time to sign up! See your e-mail for my contact info! I need your name, gender, e-mail address, phone number, and snail mail address (to send out your character info). Please respond by Sunday, August 29, if possible, so I can assign characters and get the information to you a couple of weeks before the party so you have more time to plan your costume and get “in character”!
If you would like to attend the party, but this is not a good date for you, please let me know that! Last year’s pirate mystery party was rescheduled when we realized that quite a few people could not attend due to scheduling conflicts. So, if several people can’t make this date, we are open to rescheduling.
Please call or e-mail if you have any questions at all!

AHKC Myths: Busted / Confirmed.
Hello!
This is a reminder that the Acadiana Homeschool Key Club will meet on Tuesday, August 31 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the South Regional branch of the Lafayette Public Library. The following are a couple facts vs. myths about our club:
1. We All Know Each Other: FALSE. Not to be corny or anything, but Key Club members come from all over…different homeschool groups, different towns.
2. Our Meetings Can Be Awkward: TRUE…hey just being honest! We don’t know each other, but by the middle of the year, it’s a whole lot less awkward and a whole lot more fun, interesting…and still a bit weird (in a good way!) We meet once a month, so there’s a lot to cover; we review old events, work on current projects, and brainstorm new ones…and we try to have a game or two in the mix. (And no, I’m not going to start that “Come to the Key Club meeting, we have cookies” business…although we do. And they’re delicious.)
3. You Have to Pay to Join: TRUE. Last year – during our first charter year – all dues were paid by our sponsoring organization, the Saint Martinville Kiwanis Club. For 2010-11, dues are $15 per member (includes dues we pay to Key Club International and LaMissTenn Key Club District.) Dues are payable in September.
4. You Have to Attend All Meetings and Events: FALSE. The beauty of this Key Club is that it is student-run, with the members planning and picking events and activities. We’re homeschoolers – we’re teenagers – we understand crazy schedules.
5. Key Club Members Don’t Have Lives; they spend their time picking trash up off the side of the road: FALSE. We definitely have lives. Our members have extensive lists of activities, including but not limited to sports, cheerleading, music playing, mission trips, 4H, acting, horseback riding, travelling…I’m pretty good at guitar hero, myself. That’s what makes the club so awesome: teenagers who have such busy lives and different interests getting together to make a difference in our community and hang out.

Save the Date
Hey! The gangster mystery party will happen Saturday, September 18, 2010 from 6:00 pm till 10:00 pm. Mark your calendar! If you have a conflict, but wish you could attend, please let Mrs. Jenni Boudreaux know. If there are lots of conflicts, the date may be changed.
Murder in the Roaring 20′s !!!
Coming soon…
(in September or October)
Don Wannabe invites YOU to the opening night of his new club, the Four Deuces. Do you dare to spend an evening with gangsters, hit men, and politicians? Well, do ya? Anything could happen!
CHARTERED! :D
The Acadiana Homeschool Key Club is chartered!
The key club is officially chartered with 29 members and a very supportive Kiwanis club, parents, and community. The Saint Martinville Kiwanis hosted our March meeting and presented our charter, installed officers, and presented members with pins and certificates.
We’re very excited to see this group of amazing teenagers all around the same table and looking forward to our future events and projects!

Pirate Party Has Extra Room
Hey! 11 people have signed up for the pirate party. If you’d like to invite a friend of Key Club age, go ahead! Remember there is a $5 fee. Let me know so I can keep track of the count. I need their name, gender, and contact info. The party needs at least 15 people, but can accommodate up to 20 players. Also, if any Key Club members want to sign up, you can still do so! I need to send out character information at least a couple weeks before the party, so I need to get a final headcount by this Friday, January 8. So, please sign up your invited guests with me by then.
Thanks,
Mrs. Jenni
Pirate Party DATE CHANGE !!!
Hey! Several club members are unable to attend the party on January 2 due to out-of-town travel. To allow as many members to attend as possible, we are rescheduling the party to Saturday, January 30, 2009. So, please RSVP again,
-
even if you RSVP’d before
, by Saturday, December 26 (or ye’ll be walkin’ the plank, ye landlubber!) to Dennis Boudreaux (contact info will come via e-mail).
Holiday Baking Project
This is an easy project that you don’t need to sign up for, but can just do on your own in your own area, even if you are not home for the holidays. To show appreciation for those who cannot be off of work and home with their families (firemen, policemen, hospital workers, etc.) for the holidays (Christmas, New Year’s, etc.), you can bake cookies or some other treat and take them, on the holiday, to the people who can not be off for the holidays. This can be done throughout the year on every holiday. You do not need to let anyone know that you are doing the project, but I hope that everyone gets involved in their local area.
